To Our Stakeholders
Dresser-Rand is committed to growing its business profitably and contributing to a sustainable future. We believe we can make a positive difference in our world for future generations, and fulfill the needs of our energy clients. Our technologies, products and services are helping bring energy and the environment into harmony, and we're well positioned to participate in the continued build-out and service of the energy infrastructure while adhering to environmental, societal and governance principles.
To quote the World Commission on Environment and Development, sustainability is the "development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." We see sustainability as the harmonious intersection of social, environmental, governance, and economic responsibilities. Organizations that can successfully balance all four of these responsibilities will grow their profits while contributing to a sustainable future.
We strive to create a safe and stimulating work environment for our employees, suppliers and service providers; to reduce the environmental impact of our facilities; and to strengthen the communities in which we operate. As you read this year's (our second) Sustainability Report, you'll see how we have and continue to successfully address these challenges.
Throughout this year's report, we've also included the highlights of our 2010 President's Awards. These awards recognize our employees for achieving excellence and high performance in their work.
We'll share with you what Dresser-Rand is doing to help achieve a more sustainable future and review the progress we've made on commitments outlined in last year's report. In each of these areas-social, environmental and governance-we'll highlight numerous successes we've enjoyed on our journey toward a more profitable and sustainable future. These successes are not happenstance. We continue to offer the advanced technologies, superior products and premier service our clients have come to expect from us, while balancing our focus in areas such as community involvement, localization initiatives, safety, continuing education, environmental stewardship, and governance.
Environmentally-friendly energy technologies continue to emerge as viable options to meet future energy needs in a clean and sustainable manner. Our steam turbine line-up is well respected in the renewable energy market. We employ technologies that use captured waste heat in a combined cycle process for greater efficiency, and in some applications our clients are burning biomass (e.,g., wood, waste, alcohol fuels) as a renewable fuel source to produce power and reduce fuel emissions.
Dresser-Rand is proud of its history and its continuing commitment to responsibly meet global energy demands, while profitably growing our business. We're at work 'bringing energy and the environment into harmony.'
